White Circle with a Red Triangle Mini-Sculpture
The start of an idea for this mini-sculpture came when I found a beautiful sample piece of black and clear Perspex laminate. I had it for quite a few months before the next piece arrived: a white circle. Together the size and balance was just right. Not sure at this stage what they would end up like.
Then another few months went by before I found the next component: a piece of a shower fitting, untouched and very shiny with a hole in the middle into which I initially shoved some white metal handmade springs which were sitting on my work table. At this stage they still had red beads attached as they were originally part of a Christmas decoration. Beads went and faces were added, as I am currently using faces in most of my pieces as part of a series called "Evolution".
I also found a red Perspex triangle amongst my treasures though a number of alternative pieces where tried out, this provided the best balance to thesilver square, directing the eye to the circle.
Still something was missing. About a month ago at a swapmeet (car boot sale or what ever a market selling second hand goods is called where you live) I came across a container of the most interesting square beads of various colour combinations. The black and white ones turned out to be just what I needed to bring the whole piece together. Though exactly where to put them took a bit of time to work out. I have found that the best way to see the balance in a design is to take a series of photos and look at them on the computer where it is easy to compare them.
Last decision was what to do about the screw holding the circle to the black base. I decided to use another black and white striped bead and cover it.
Fixings:
- The white circle is screwed to the base. I drilled the hole with my hand drill as the drill press was no good, given the position of the hole. A hole was also drilled in the base for a short distance.
- The silver metal square is taped with double sided tape to the base as are the red Perspex triangle and the black and white beads
- The bead in the base of the white circle is glued.
- The faces are glued to the silver springs and the springs are all tied together in the base of the silver square where they can not be seen.
